| | Tanka Workshop - Summer
On July 10, we had our summer Tanka Workshop in the Community Room at the Poughkeepsie Galleria. Despite the heat and the ongoing pandemic, I was so happy to see our members participate with great enthusiasm!
We had originally planned to go to Locust Grove Estate as a summer outing but unfortunately, we were not able to due to another event taking place.
Unlike previous tanka workshops that had specific themes, this one was simply limited to 8 freestyle poems without titles. Everyone was quick to submit their drafts and each one demonstrated the individual’s creativity. It seemed like everyone truly enjoyed writing these freestyle poems.
Like every Tanka Workshop, we ended with a “tea chat”. Seeing everyone’s smiles as we caught up with each other’s lives over tea and sweets was enough to make us forget the heat.

例年にない酷暑を迎えつつある夏日、7月10日に「短歌ワークショップ」がPoughkeepsie のコミュニティ・ルームで開催されました。メンバーの方々は酷暑に、長引くパンデミックに、また蔓延し出したモンキー・ポックスにもめげずに元気に参加して下さり、それが何よりのエネルギーとなってこのワークショップを継続可能にしてくれています、嬉しい限りです！
今回は夏行事としてLocust Grove Estate へのアウティングを予定していましたが、先約があり実行できずに残念でした。歌題は無しの自由詠８首までとしたこのワークショップでは、皆さん短歌送稿が敏速でかつそれぞれのオリジナリィテイが高く発揮されていて、まさに自由詠を楽しまれたようでした。
例会の如く和気藹々と進行したワークショップの最後は「茶チャット会」となり、それぞれの近況報告など暑さを吹き飛ばす笑顔で終了、次回も皆さんお元気で集える事を願っています。
